Port Vale Academy took their under 11 and under 13 teams to Belgium during the Easter holiday weekend to compete in the Hasselt Cup and both teams came back successful.
The under 13's had an almost perfect tournament. They topped the group stages on the first day and progressed through to the final without conceding a single goal.
They then won the final in style with a 2-0 scoreline to lift the trophy.
The under 11’s also topped their group and progressed through to the final where they emerged as 2-1 winners in a very close encounter.
Vale took the lead before conceding an equaliser with barely minutes left to play before digging deep to snatch the win with almost the last kick of the game and make it a double trophy success for the Academy.
“It was a fantastic tournament for us” said Academy FDP Lead Coach Lee Foyle.
“Playing against different styles of teams from various countries in front of very vocal crowds was a great experience for the lads and both teams coming home as winners was the cherry on top of a very successful trip.”
The Academy would like to thank the parents, who gave up their Easter weekend to accompany the group, for their support and encouragement throughout the trip.
