Despite snow sweeping across the country last week, the weather didn’t affect the weekend’s football and there was a full set of fixtures in Sky Bet League Two.
Colchester United travelled to Swindon Town on Friday night to kick things off, with the U’s edging a five-goal thriller to move to eighth and within touching distance of the play-offs.
Coventry City edged past Cheltenham Town at the Ricoh Arena to remain in seventh, whilst the Robins lie 15th following the 2-1 defeat.
Two of the other teams placed inside the play-off positions faced off at Sincil Bank, with Lincoln City beating Accrington to move to sixth. Stanley drop to fifth.
Wycombe Wanderers moved a step closer to the automatic promotion places and into fourth as they narrowly defeated Chesterfield, a side who remain locked in the bottom two.
Two sides at the opposite ends of the table met but there was no upset to be had. Despite having a one-man advantage, bottom club Forest Green Rovers fell to defeat against Luton Town who now move two points clear at the top.
Notts County’s 0-0 draw with Grimsby Town keeps them second behind Luton, but Exeter City are also still lurking in third following a 2-1 win over Stevenage.
Neil Aspin’s Port Vale gave themselves more breathing space away from the relegation zone, winning away to Carlisle United.
Barnet’s win over fellow strugglers Morecambe also lifted them out of the bottom two, but only on goal difference. The Shrimps are two points better off and they sit 20th.
Elsewhere, Newport County scored a late winner to seal three points at Cambridge United, Crewe Alexandra eased past Crawley Town and Mansfield Town and Yeovil Town played out a goalless draw.
