The last time these two sides met came at the end of the 2015/16 League One season at Vale Park where Port Vale picked up a 3-0 win.
A brace from Louis Dodds and a late strike from JJ Hooper confirmed the three points for Rob Page’s men over a Crewe side, who’s relegation was confirmed.
Vale were searching for a top-half finish to complement their solid season in League One, and that looked positive with Dodds opening the scoring on three minutes.
Port Vale looked to snatch their first victory in five meetings between the two sides and looked comfortable as the game went on. Dodds grabbed his second of the game on the 83rd minute after some excellent play from a Carl Dickinson set-piece.
JJ Hooper put the final nail in the coffin for The Railwaymen in the final minute of the game. His curling effort stormed into the top-right hand corner, much to the delight of the Port Vale fans.
The result saw Vale climb to 12th in the table as Crewe were cemented to 24th, where they finished in that season.
