Smith - "Morale Is Really High"

Nathan Smith has described the morale in the Port Vale camp as “high” ahead of Sunday’s big showdown with Fleetwood Town.

Vale will be looking for a win to help their chances of staying in League One and Fleetwood also need a win to continue the fight for automatic promotion.

Speaking to the media after the 1-0 win at Walsall, the 21-year old knows the importance of Sunday’s game but is feeling confident with Vale’s chances of staying up.

“The morale is really high”, said Smith.

“We beat them at home and it’s something I feel we can do. We’re going to go away, work hard, battle and know that we have to depend on other results too.

“But, going there – I think we can win.

“We will be nervous but I think it will be one of them where whoever wants it more, they will come out on top.”

Despite the stakes, Smith says he is looking forward to Sunday’s encounter but knows that The Valiants need a win,

He added: “These are the occasions where we play to be involved in.

“It’s not the best scenario to be in, come end of the season. But, it’s positive after Tuesday because we would have been out of it if we didn’t beat Walsall.

“It’s anyone’s game. It’s the last game of the season so we need to win but they also need a win.

“It’s 50/50 really, it’s whoever wants it more and whoever puts the ball into the back of the net really.”
