A young Vale side were knocked out of the competition at the first round stage after controlling most of the game and were leading with just 14 minutes to go.

In the first half Harry Benns had a shot tipped round the post by ‘keeper Jake Frankham and Mike Calverley had a header disallowed for offside as Vale pressed. Mike Conlon also had a clever chip shot palmed away by Frankham.

Five minutes into the second period Conlon headed a cross goalwards only for Frankham to tip the ball against the bar and it bounced down on the line before being cleared to safety. Bilston threatened when Dan Ewell sent a free header over the bar.
