Welcome to Vale Park Kjell Knops

Dutch defender becomes Bruno Ribiero's first signing

Port Vale are delighted to announce the signing of Dutch defender, Kjell Knops, from Ereste Divisie side MVV Maastricht.

The centre-back becomes the first signing under the Bruno Ribeiro era and the former club captain of Maastricht will be looking to show what he is capable of in English football.

At 28 years of age, Knops has spent his playing career in Holland, starting out with Eredivisie side Roda JC in 2008, where he made his professional debut, before moving to Echter Voetbal Vereniging (EVV) in 2010.

After an impressive campaign, Knops then moved to Maastricht in 2011 and after making over 150 appearances for the club, the defender has moved on now to join the Valiants on atwo-year contract.

Kjell says he is a left-footed centre half who likes to play football.

He told the Official Port Vale website: “It is important to me to come and play for a manager who wants to play football and that is why I was keen to come to Port Vale.

“Port Vale is new to me, so when they contacted me I did my research and I saw it is a great club with a great stadium.

“League One is a good competition and it is a very good opportunity for me. I watch Premier League football on the TV so I do know a bit about English football.

“I am looking forward to the challenge. I hope to do my best and I hope to have a good season with Port Vale.”
