Coming Up: Northampton Town

As the fixture release date draws nearer, we’ll be taking a look at the newly promoted and relegated sides will be joining us in League One next season.

Today we take a look at reining League Two champions Northampton Town, who have a familiar face in charge ready for the new campaign.

Nickname: The Cobblers
Founded: 1897
Stadium: Sixfields Stadium
Manager: Rob Page
Last season: 1st in League Two

Former Port Vale boss Rob Page swapped Burslem for Sixfields Stadium last month, bringing an end to his 20 months in charge at Vale Park.

The 41-year-old has inherited a squad which won the League Two title comfortably last season. The Cobblers finished the 2015/16 campaign 13 points clear of nearest challengers Oxford United.

That meant they were promoted as early as 9th April and secured the championship just one week later.

Vale fans will recognise at least one face among the Cobbers’ ranks next season with former Valiant Marc Richards currently plying his trade at Sixfields.

The striker finished 2015/16 with 18 goals from 37 appearances.

Vale and Northampton last locked horns in April 2013 as a Liam Chilvers strike and a Lee Collins own goal snatched a point for the Valiants.

Our last win over the Cobblers came one year earlier. John McCombe and Sean Rigg scored either side of an Adebayo Akinfenwa goal to secure the three points.
