Coming Down: MK Dons

As the fixture release date draws nearer, we’ll be taking a look at the newly promoted and relegated sides will be joining us in League One next season.

Today, we take a look at Milton Keynes Dons, who finished the 2015/16 season second bottom in the Sky Bet Championship.

Nickname: The Dons
Founded: 2004
Stadium: Stadium MK
Manager: Karl Robinson
Last season: 23rd in the Championship

Despite earning automatic promotion to the second tier just a year ago, MK Dons find themselves back in League One following a disappointing season.

Karl Robinson’s side were unable to follow fellow promoted teams, Preston North End and Bristol City, in finishing above the bottom three.

However, the Dons will no doubt be aiming to make a swift return to the Championship next term.

They made it to the third round of the League Cup before being knocked out by Southampton and were sent crashing out of the FA Cup at the same stage following a home loss to Chelsea.

The summer has already brought good news for the club, though, with now-Premier League superstar Dele Alli becoming the first Dons academy graduate to represent their country at a major international tournament.

Current Dons stars Lee Hodson and Simon Church are also at the European Championships in France, representing Northern Ireland and Wales respectively.

The last time Port Vale and MK Dons locked horns was during the 2014/15 campaign.

The Dons won once in the FA Cup and once in league while a highly-charged match at Vale Park saw the sides draw 0-0.
