Coming Down: Bolton Wanderers

As the fixture release date draws nearer, we’ll be taking a look at the newly promoted and relegated sides will be joining us in League One next season.

Today, we take a look at Bolton Wanderers, who finished bottom of the Sky Bet Championship.

Nickname: The Trotters
Founded: 1874
Stadium: Macron Stadium
Manager: Phil Parkinson
Last season: 24th in the Championship

Following a disappointing season on the pitch in 2015/16, Bolton Wanderers are now making big changes off it.

The club appointed new manager Phil Parkinson last week after he’d spent five years at Valley Parade in charge of Bradford City.

That comes following a campaign which saw the Trotters drop down to the third tier of English football for the first time since 1993.

They started last season with former Celtic boss Neil Lennon in charge but he left in March.

Bolton won just five league matches and were eliminated in the first round of the League Cup and the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The last time Port Vale faced Bolton was last pre-season at Vale Park as the visitors ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a Gary Madine brace.

The last time the sides came up against each other competitively was over 15 years ago as the Lancashire outfit did the league double over Vale on their way to promotion to the Premier League.
