Brown Reacts To Fixture Release

Port Vale assistant manager Michael Brown says the team should enjoy playing in front of a bumper crowd at Valley Parade on the opening day of the season.

The Valiants full fixture list for the 2016/17 campaign was released this morning and will see Bruno Ribeiro’s side face Bradford City on 6th August.

Speaking exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD, Brown reacted to the announcement of the first fixture.

“It’ll be a tough game,” he said. “But League One is going to be tough this year anyway so why not start with 18,000 at the first game.

“They’ve got Stuart McCall back, a Bradford legend who I played with, so it’ll be a real tough game.”

Vale were also drawn away at Carlisle United in the first round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday afternoon.

Regarding the tie against the Cumbrians, Brown added: “I’m just starting to think of the travel now and the organisation.

“I think it’s difficult in the first week that you have that game so quickly on the Tuesday, ideally it’d have been on the weekend after.

“A tough game, Keith Curle is getting a good side together, we found them tough here last year so it’ll be a tough game.

“Not the best geographically but it should be a good footballing game.”
