Port Vale all but secured Automatic Promotion to League One as they drew level with just over five minutes remaining in the match.
The Cobblers were looking to secure a play-off place and took the lead early on when Clarke Carlisle headed home within two minutes.
However, Vale applied the pressure and were rewarded for their efforts when Liam Chilvers headed the Valiants level before half-time.
Northampton regained the lead midway through the second half, as Roy O'Donovan found the top corner within the box.
With Vale needing to avoid defeat, they drew level once more as Lee Collins put in his own net to make it 2-2.
