Page: ‘We Owed The Fans That’

Rob Page said Port Vale’s resounding derby day win over Crewe Alexandra was one for the fans.

A double from Louis Dodds and a late JJ Hooper strike sealed the three points for the Valiants and resigned the Railwaymen to relegation.

Following defeats to Chesterfield, Barnsley and Burton Albion in recent weeks, the manager felt his side owed the supporters.

“A convincing win,” he told Valiant PlayerHD. “I said in my programme notes before the game that I love derby days.

“It’s a shame they’ve got relegated but there’s no sentiment involved, we wanted to win today because of what happened last week second half.

“We owed the fans that a well. There’s that extra little bit of spice on it as well because it’s a derby day against Crewe.

“Overall pleasing from our point of view because it’s three points gained and we’ve climbed the table a little bit.”
