Port Vale & St Nathaniel’s Academy Celebrate World Book Day

Twelve School Children Attended Oldham Athletic Game

Port Vale and a local primary school celebrated World Book Week during Tuesday evening’s game against Oldham Athletic.

To emphasise the importance of reading, 12 children from St Nathaniel’s Academy in Burslem were the guests of the club at the Sky Bet League One fixture.

Before the game all the children were able to choose a book from a range provided by the education department.

Children from the school have been taking part in literacy activities at the football club during the past six months with prizes provided for those making most progress.

The school has strong links with the Valiants and has established the “Port Vale Wall” in their main corridor with Mark Marshall being their ‘adopted’ player.

Chris Taylor, Vale’s Head of Education, said: “We feel that strong links with local schools like St Nathaniel’s have benefits for both parties.

“The sharing of resources, a commitment to support and work together and an offer for children to take part in Saturday morning soccer sessions run at Dimensions by the Academy are all evidence of this.”
