They now face back-to-back home games against high-flying Swindon Town and Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evening respectively.

Speaking to the press on Monday, Marshall explained that, while the top four teams have pulled away from the pack, there are plenty of incentives for Vale to fight for.

“At the moment we have everything to play for because, apart from Bristol City, Preston, MK Dons and Swindon it’s like a mini league,” he said.

“There’s one mini league between those teams and then after that it’s a free for all. If anyone can have a bit of consistency then it’s likely they will get into the play-offs.”

Marshall admits he is really enjoying playing alongside the former Crewe wide man, saying: “To be fair, Byron is a good player and he’s got his chance now and everyone is seeing how good a player he is.

“It’s always difficult for teams when you’re playing against two good wingers and you can’t double up on both of them so it creates more space for me.

“A lot of times he comes in and I can stay wide because he carries the ball well and then he gives the ball to me and we try to make things happen.

“It’s good having him in the team and it’s good having someone else in the team that people see as a major threat.”
