Port Vale stars Chris Birchall and Sam Kelly were on hand to present local primary school students with attendance awards earlier this week.
St Nathaniel’s brought nine pupils to Vale Park on Monday to be rewarded with trophies for achieving 95% attendance or higher.
The Club has a partnership with the school by which the children are encouraged to improve their attendance as it can affect their education in the future.
The scheme will continue next term, when more pupils will come to the stadium to meet the players and receive their prize.
Speaking to port-vale.co.uk, Sam Kelly said: “It’s great to be able to reward the kids like this for their effort.
“It’s not just nice for them to come here to collect their trophies, it’s also really enjoyable for us as players to congratulate them.
“It was fantastic to see how proud each of the kids were when they got to up to be given their trophies.
“It’s really good that the Club has partnerships like this that can continue over the course of a season or school term.”
