Page Highlights Benefits Of Potential Cup Run

Port Vale manager Rob Page has highlighted the benefits of a decent cup run ahead of his side’s Capital One Cup tie against Burnley.

The Valiants welcome Sean Dyche’s outfit to Vale Park on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm, in the first round of the knock-out competition.

Premier League sides are entered into the tournament at the second stage meaning a win over the Clarets could see Page’s side face top-flight opposition next.

Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD ahead of the clash, the Vale boss emphasised how important a good run could be for any Football League side.

“From a financial viewpoint of course, it gives us an opportunity to go through the rounds maybe with some TV money coming in later on with other cup competitions,” he said.

“But not just that, with players as well, if we can get through the rounds and play against the bigger teams at their venues.

“I’ve experienced it myself as a player when you go to Old Trafford and Anfield and as players, supporters, staff and media you all want to be involved in games like that.”
