minute.rdVale once again defended well as a team and looked like they would be rewarded for their efforts when Richard Duffy became the first Vale player to score at Glanford Park and the first to score away at Scunthorpe for almost thirty years when he put the Vale ahead in the 43
But the home side had other ideas and although they looked well beaten, they managed an equaliser in the dying seconds to make Vale feel like they had lost the game.
There were no surprises when Rob Page announced his team before kick off, with the Vale boss opting to go with the same eleven who started against MK Dons in Vale’s previous match.
The only change came on the bench, when Colin Daniel came in for Tom Pope, who didn’t travel with the team after picking up a virus.
The home side could easily have caught Vale of guard right from the kick off, had Chris Neal not been alert, pushing Gary McSheffrey’s effort around the post with fifteen seconds on the clock.
Neither side could claim they dominated the early exchanges, but Vale were certainly looking confident and were quite prepared to get bodies forward as they looked for an early opener.
Paddy Madden threatened with a shot from 25 yards out, but it was always rising and Chris Neal just watched as it flew well over his crossbar.
Ben Williamson won a corner for the visitors, which was floated in bt Michael O’Connor and although the ball was half cleared, it fell to Michael Brown, but the midfielder blazed high over the bar.
There were half chances at both ends of the pitch in a game which was proving difficult to choose a winner from, with each side having spells when they were looking dangerous.
Vale were having plenty of the ball and played some decent stuff, but rarely threatened in the areas where it really mattered, their play often breaking up in the final third.

As the home side did in the first half, Vale went close within twelve seconds of the kick off in the second half, Louis Dodds just failing to get a clean strike on the ball, sending his shot wide of the target.
Vale had the home side pinned deep inside their own half in the opening minutes after the interval, attacking like their lives depended on it, going all out for a second goal.
It was obviously not going to continue all the way through the second half, but the home side struggled to make any impact at the other end of the pitch.
Oozing with confidence by now, Vale looked very much like a top half side, but inevitably there would be opportunities for the home side, and McSheffery wasted one of those when he fired off target from the edge of the box.
Vale then had a let offon the hour when Theo Robinson struck the Vale upright from close range and the ball fell to Madden, whose first time snap shot flew over the bar from six yards out.
It was the turn of the home side to have Vale on the rack, pressing hard for an equaliser, with the visitors having to work hard to keep the Iron at bay.
It was looking increasingly like Vale would need a second goal in order to restore clam, although to be fair, they were defending well when called upon.
