Having been pegged back to 2-2 at the Ricoh Arena, Vale were awarded a set piece just outside the Sky Blues box and the Northern Irishman stepped up coolly, firing into the bottom corner to restore the visitors’ lead.
The former Crewe and Rotherham United midfielder had to beat off stiff competition from the likes of Louis Dodds and Chris Birchall to win the award, finishing with just three votes more than his nearest rival.
