PRESS DUTY: Mark Grew, Adam Yates & Chris Birchall

Trio Spoke To The Media On Monday

Mark Grew, Adam Yates and Chris Birchall were on press duty on Monday afternoon and spoke about a range of topics.

Following Vale’s exit from the FA Cup at the hands of MK Dons at the weekend, the media were keen to get the trio’s views on the game.

Due to the unavailability of Ryan McGivern and Richard Duffy because of international call-ups and suspension respectively, many of the questions centered around the club’s defensive options heading into Saturday’s league match against Rochdale.

Here’s a round up of what they had to say…

Chris Birchall On FA Cup Exit

“Whether you play them home or away, they like to get the ball round and play, whether they were resting a few players or not.

“It’s tough when you play a team like that and the likes of them, Preston, the Bristol Citys in our league, even though it’s a cup game, you know it’s going to be a tough game.

“We couldn’t have had a much harder draw but we tried to go out and play, obviously got the first goal but you always thought they would get back in the game and they did.”

Adam Yates On The Need To Be Versatile

“I’ve played a lot of games at left back for the football club and a lot of games in my career at left back anyway.

“There is a shortage of defenders with the two that are out but I think we’ve got people in the squad who can do jobs in different positions and that’s no different.
