PORT VALE: Jeffers, FinneySUBS:Grew, Mills, Hughes, Walker, hazel, Sproson, Webb, Earle, Futcher, Beckford, Riley.

Vale showed plenty of character after playing the final 31 minutes of the game with ten men and still coming away from Field Mill with the points, closing the gap behind leaders Wolves to three points, with a game in hand. Ray Walker was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card, but that only seemed to inspire the Valiants against a Mansfield side previously unbeaten n their home patch. Five minutes from time, Robbie Earle netted the decisive goal after a Simon Mills free kick was flicked on into the six-yard box to ensure Vale remained in second spot.
