A single goal from Vale midfielder Michael Cummins ensured Vale would have the bragging rights as Vale shocked the majority of the 23,000 crowd with a well-deserved victory to take the three points back to Burslem with them. It left the Potters reeling after failing to beat their Potteries rivals in their last six meetings and dented their promotion hopes. Vale ripped into Stoke right from the off and almost went in front with just 18 seconds on the clock when Cutler pushed a pile driver from Steve Brooker around the upright. In the end Brian Horton’s side fully deserved their win, sealed by a header from Cummings nine minutes before the interval.
