Striker knows what it takes to cement a permanent place in the team
Ben Williamson levelled the scores against Carlisle United on Saturday with a well taken goal, but he says he now has to build on that if he is to succeed.
The striker has targeted more starts and knows one way to more or less guarantee that would be if he starts getting on the score sheet on a more regular basis.
He said: “It was nice to get on the score sheet, but gaffer had some stern words at half time with me so maybe that worked, but it was nice to get on the score sheet and to turn the game around and win.
“He just told me this was my opportunity to take it and in the first half he wasn’t happy with my first half performance and he wanted me to do it in the first fifteen minutes of the second half so I tried to that and it worked out.
“A talking to can get you going, but when I first started the game I wanted to do that from the beginning, it wasn’t like I wasn’t trying to give one hundred per cent, but maybe that just pushed it a bit more and it obviously worked and it was nice to score.
“All season I have wanted to start games and when I have been given the opportunity I haven’t taken it, but hopefully I have done now.
“Hopefully we will move on to the next game and the manager will go with the same partnership and we can work on it again and hopefully score goals again.
“We need to be getting results now. We have had a bad run and it was nice to get the three points on Saturday and hopefully we can get back on track.
“It will be a tough game against Leyton orient on Saturday because they are at the top of the table and I am sure it will be hard, but for me personally I need to concentrate on my performance and hopefully start to get a few goals.
