A fan's view of things Port Vale
One thing that has annoyed me over recent seasons is clubs fielding weakened line ups in cup ties because ‘the league is more important’. Is it though? If I was a Wigan fan I would have taken winning the Cup last season instead of staying up every time!
It’s also a myth that a cup run ruins league form. Hats off to Sheffield United, who were second from the bottom of League One but still gave everything in their FA Cup run and now have a decent chance of reaching the semi-finals his weekend.
They ran themselves into the ground beating Fulham after a replay and then Nottingham. Forest, but has their league form suffered? No – they have now won eight games in a row and are up into the top ten. Similarly Sunderland have kept going on two cup fronts and although still in relegation trouble have at least got themselves back into the pack.
place and winning the LDV!thIt’s happened to the Vale. Back in Jan 2001 we were next to the bottom of what is now League One when we began a run in the LDV Vans Trophy (now called JPT). Well we carried on winning cup matches and went on an unbeaten league run of 12 games, ending the season in 11
Success breeds success, it’s a pity more clubs don’t realise that and stop short changing the fans.
