Fixtures Preview: Doncaster Rovers (A)

A look at the most anticipated matches this coming season

Vale’s second game of the season will see Micky’s men take on Doncaster Rovers at Keepmoat Stadium on Sat 16th August KO 3pm, for their first away match of the season.

The newly relegated side will be looking to get back into the Championship the first time of asking after spending one season back in the second tier of English football where they were a mainstay for several years before their drop back into League One during the 2011-12 season.

Manager, Paul Dickov, has stated that all the senior players at the club took a 50% pay reduction when the club got relegated which worries the ex-Oldham manager as it means the clubs top players may move to pastures new.

The Yorkshire club have recently been in the national news for their new celebrity owner. Louis Tomlinson from the boy band One Direction has recently bought his boyhood club as a co-owner, with ex-Chairman John Ryan. The cosmetics tycoon is most famous for coming on as substitute for the club back in 2003 at the age of 52, which put him into the ‘Guinness Book of Wold Records’ as the oldest footballer to appear for a British football club.
