North West Alliance League Cup quarter -final

Port Vale 2 Bradford City 3 (AET)

The Vale youth team threw away a two goal lead to eventually lose 3-2 at home to Bradford City on the Bycars training pitches this afternoon. Vale went in front in the 8th minute when Bradford defender Jack Stockdill inadvertently headed the ball into his own net from a cross from the left. Luke Beesley and Ricardo Swarby went close to increasing the Vale's lead before half time with good shots

In the 58th minute Vale went 2-0 ahead when a cleverly taken free kick saw the ball crossed low into the box for skipper Nathan Smith to score from six yards. Six minutes later Bradford pulled a goal back when Stockdill scored in the right end, sweeping the ball into the roof of the net after a cross from the right.

With twelve minutes to go Bradford drew level when a corner by Niall Heaton evaded everybody to creep in at the far post. The game then went into extra time and just as it seemed that penalties would be needed, Bradford scored the winner with just four minutes remaining. A cross from the right was knocked on for Oliver McBurnie to head the ball past Ryan Boot.
