Clean sheet pleases Davis

But Joe is quick to praise the whole team

Joe Davis was understandably on a high following the clean sheet against Colchester on Tuesday night and dedicated the performance to the supporters.

Davis and team mate Jack Grimmer were at the heart of the vale defence and they must take a lot of the credit, but Davis was quick to point out it was a team effort.

He said: “When the final whistle went I think all of the lads were relieved because we thoroughly deserved it and we knew it was important we didn’t throw it away like we did against Swindon.

“That was a massive disappointment for us and it hurts, but we had to be mentally strong against Colchester.

“We came into the game knowing we had to be strong for the fans and for ourselves and I don’t think we let anybody down.

“It was nice to keep the clean sheet and I thought we coped alright. Every clean sheet feels just as good, but against Colchester it felt even better because of the matter in which we got it.

“I don’t think you can pick out one individual player because everybody performed really well and we defended as a team.

“It was important for our confidence. We know we have got the quality and we know we have let people down in the last few weeks, the fans especially and we needed to put in a good performance for them.”
