After an impressive performance on Saturday, Vale’s new recruit Ryan McGivern is looking for the team get their first win of the season tonight against Hartlepool in the Capital One cup, to get a cup run to gain momentum.
McGivern said: “We want to go out and get the win especially because we didn’t on Saturday. Regardless of whether it’s a cup competition or a league match we want to get our first win on the board.
“You want to go as far as possible. It ‘s another home tie so hopefully the fans can turn out and get behind us so we can get ourselves through to the next round.
“We have to remember its just eleven men against eleven men, regardless of what division they’re in. So we will be going out there fully focused on the job in hand.”
Vale then have a tough test against top of the table Doncaster Rover on Saturday at the Keepmoat Stadium.
McGivern continued: “They’ve obviously dropped down a league and had a great result on Saturday, but if we want to do well this season we’ve got to go into every game with no fear, trying to get something out of the game and that’s the aim for Saturday.”
