Vale Reserves finish all-square

Final Third Development League – Western Division

Port Vale 0 Shrewsbury T 0

Vale reserves ended their league season with a goalless draw yesterday afternoon.

After a minute’s silence in memory of the Hillsborough disaster, Wilson Carvalho hit Vale’s first effort over the bar before Shrewsbury went close when Ethan Jones had a shot deflected for a corner. In the tenth minute Shrewsbury’s Kaimen Anderson hit a shot from 20 yards that Harry Pickering tipped over the bar in style. Billy Reeves had Vale’s next effort at goal but sent a shot from the edge of the box over the bar.

Gary O’Neill played a great ball out to Carvalho on the left just after the half hour mark. Carvalho crossed the ball into the goalmouth and Macauley Davies nodded it just over the bar under pressure from a defender.

minute when a free kick was lofted into the box and defender Ben Burton fired over the bar.thThe visitors came close in the 48

A good move down the right ended with Joe Kenton firing over for Shrewsbury as the scoresheet remained blank. Just past the hour mark a long ball over the top from the Vale defence saw Dan Turner knock the ball down for Chekaine Steele to drive a shot wide. Anderson again raced clear for Shrewsbury but Doug Price did well to get back with a great tackle and the danger was averted.

Vale then had their best spell of the game as both Steele and Luke Lewis fired wide. Carvalho sent over another dangerous cross from the left and Nathan Smith, fresh from his appearance on the first team bench last Saturday, had a header saved by Harry Lewis.
