Dodds enjoying his role

Centre midfield position most enjoyable for utility man

Louis Dodds was happy with his performance in the centre of Vale’s midfield against Rotherham United on Easter Monday and he says it is a role he could get used to.

Used to play in a more of an attacking position, or out wide on the flank, Dodds says he enjoyed getting more involved and would be happy to play there again if asked.

He said: “It is a boring cliché, but I am just happy to play – as long as I am in the eleven I don’t really mind where I play, but I enjoyed it in the centre of midfield.

“Sometimes when you are out wide you can get lost and you have to come looking for the ball when it might not particularly be on, but I enjoyed it.

“I had to play in a bit more of a controlled role and sometimes the manager is shouting to you to keep off your runs a bit because you go up and the ‘keeper catches it and you are left more exposed.

“It was a learning curve for me and I really enjoyed it and if I am playing there again I will enjoy it again.

“Sometimes it can be quite hard when you have been playing up front for two or three games and then you get put out wide and then centre midfield.

“But that is a good thing because it keeps you on your toes because you have got to think about how you have to play according to the role asked of you, it is enjoyable and quite interesting.

Dodds has another year on his contract and says he is hoping the squad can stay together for a further twelve months and build on what they have done so far this season.

“If you look at our squad it’s a nit been built on the biggest budget and whatever happens with the budget is something different, but you can see how far we have come with the same set of lads. If he brings one or two other players in, who knows what we can do?
