Defender impressed with Page
Adam Yates believes caretaker manager Rob Page has been learning under the best manager possible in Micky Adams.
Vale boss Adams underwent successful hip surgery on Monday and during his recovering period first-team coach Rob Page will oversee first-team duties.
Yates admits the training has been just as gruelling.
Yates said: “He’s learning the trade under Micky Adams, I think he is doing a fantastic job; there is no better manager to learn from than the gaffer.
“Page has not long finished playing so he knows what we want as players.
“There has not been too much change with training and the one thing that he certainly hasn’t let up is the fitness side of training we’ve worked just as hard with Page as we do with the gaffer,” he said.
Yates believes the mutual respect between the players, Adams and Page has benefited the club and will help the transition between coach and caretaker manager for Page.
“The players have got a lot of respect for Pagey and the gaffer has a lot of respect for Pagey, sometimes he has been that good cop when the gaffer lets a few rollicking’s out, he’s there to pick up the pieces and he does a fantastic job with the lads.”
Yates admits that despite the gaffer not being there on a day-to-day basis he will still want to know what is going on at Vale Park.
“I am sure they’ll be keeping in close contact over the weeks and however long it takes him to come back.”
