"Plenty of positives" says Grew
Like manager Micky Adams after the game, Mark Grew was upbeat on Monday after training, despite Vale’s defeat to leaders Leyton Orient at the weekend.
He said: “The performance was good and if somebody had said we would get two goals you would have taken that. To get beat the way we did was disappointing, but there were a lot of positives came out of the game.
“We got forward and we had a go at them. I think they expected us to sit back and defend, which we didn’t.
“I was disappointed with the referee and the linesman on their first goal because although the lad who was flagged offside didn’t score, he actually stopped Liam Chilvers from making a challenge, so he has got to be interfering.
“Until we get some consistency we are going to have problems, so that was disappointing, but probably the biggest kick was the second goal with 15 seconds of the second half to go.
“We were in possession and we conceded, so that could have been prevented and should have been prevented.
“At the end of the day we have come up a league and we know the finishing is of a better quality, but we have gone through the DVD his morning and all three goals were stoppable, so we have just got to eliminate these mistakes.”
