A supporter's view of things Port Vale

Grounds for praise

What does The Crucible, the lawn bowling greens at Burslem cricket club and Vale all have in common???

Well go to any match down Vale Park and you will discover the answer quicker than Micky’s post match wit.

That answer is of course pristine surfaces or more specifically in Vale’s case… surface.

No matter what time of year you head down the Vale the fruits of Steve (Speedy) Speed’s labour are as obvious as a smack in the eye.

Every blade of grass is kept immaculate as Speedy works through all weather and every hour of the day to keep Vale’s pitch top of the league.

I even once heard a story of Speedy camping on the pitch at night to keep an eye on his “pride and joy”.

Speedy’s work has also won national recognition, such as when he only narrowly came second to Mike Phillips of Grimsby in the Football league’s Groundsman of the year awards in 2009!!! So here’s to Speedy… one of the best.
