Walsall Wood 0 Port Vale 3

Vale breezed past Walsall Wood thanks to two goals from Jordan Hugill and one from Cheye Alexander in a game that also saw them miss a penalty and have Joe Davis sent off.

minute with a great finish by Hugill. Cheye Alexander sent over a cross from the right which Hugill controlled and sidestepped two defenders before firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net.thThe first half was lacking in chances although Vale thought they had taken the lead two minutes before the break when Louis Tambini headed home only to be flagged offside. It was the Vale who did break the deadlock in the 57

minute. It was a bit of a fluke as Alexander sent over a cross only a few yards from the corner flag which sailed over the bemused ‘keeper and into the far corner of the net.thRob Taylor hit a shot just wide before Vale doubled their lead in the 76

With five minutes left and Walsall Wood pressing, a clearance out of defence left Hugill free just inside his own half and he raced forward before slotting the ball into the net from the edge of the box for Vale’s third goal.

A minute later he could have completed his hat trick when he was brought down in the box, but hit the ensuing spot kick too close to the ‘keeper. In the second minute of injury time Joe Davis tangled with Dave Parks as a free kick was about to be taken and received his second yellow card of the game, which meant that he was sent off.

In the quarters finals of the competition Vale will be away to Stafford Rangers.
