Grew happy to kick-off at home

Vale start at home to Brentford

Assistant manager Mark Grew revealed the butterflies are back after the 2013-2014 fixtures were released.

Port Vale will open their 2013-2014 campaign against Brentford at home on August 3, before travelling to Colchester United on August 10. Vale will then host Capital One Cup finalist Bradford City on August 17.

Grew said: “I’m pleased that we start at home the butterflies are already in my stomach, Brentford were up there last season and it will be a tough opening game for us, but I am extremely excited to start at home in front of our supporters."

Port Vale will host former Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 31 and Grew admits it was the fixture he had his eye on when they were released this morning.

“I have been associated with Wolves all my life, they are a massive club and it is going to be a great game.

“It was the game that I looked for as soon as the fixtures were released this morning,” said Grew.

The festive period sees Vale play at home against Notts County on Boxing Day followed by another home fixture against Rotherham United on December 29.

Vale will play their first match of 2014 away against Preston North End on New Years Day followed by Colchester United at home January 4.

“I’m really excited, but I am under no illusions, there will be no easy games in this league.

“Preston are a massive club and they will fancy this league, so that will be a tough first game of 2014.

“The festive period has been kind to the Vale supporters this season with three home games, this is great for the supporters who have had to travel far in recent games over the festive period,” said Grew.
