Football League figures show Vale had biggest following in League Two
Football League figures released this week revealed that Vale’s huge following at Wycombe for the last game of the season was the largest away attendance in League Two for the whole season.
Only two other teams managed to break the two thousand barrier on their travels, Bradford City’s biggest following being 2,431 and in third place came Chesterfield with 2,338.
Both of those figures were beaten by Vale’s second best away crowd, which was the 2,789 who attended the match at Rochdale.
Vale’s average for the season was a healthy 891, again the best in the whole of League Two.
Those figures were smashed out of the water by the 3,295 who watched the Valiants went out of the FA Cup at Bramall Lane back in December.
In sharp contrast, Accrington Stanley’s best figures were 358. For their visit to Vale Park Stanley brought just 96 fans with them.
That figure was quite large compared with the 37 hardy souls who made the trip to Vale Park from Dagenham & Redbridge back in early October.
It will be interesting to see the figures for our League One campaign this coming season, with games against the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City and Sheffield United, we should see some decent gates here at Vale Park, and of course more big away days for the Vale supporters.
