Selection headache for the Gaffer
Vale manager Micky Adams and his staff will think carefully before selecting a side to take on leaders Gillingham on Saturday afternoon.
New signings Lee Hughes and Darren Purse and Chris Birchall could all start in a game which, if Vale win, they can replace Gillingham at the top of the league, at least for now.
Micky said: “Gillingham are a formidable outfit and they have strengthened their side lately. They are and have been the league leaders for most of the season and they have got some good players.
“What we will do is look it and look at their system and personnel and then pick a team from our squad of players to go and compete with them.”
The manager is under no illusions about how difficult the game is likely to be and will remember only too well the Gills getting all three points with a 2-0 win at Vale park in September.
He continued: “It is a difficult game – it always is against Gillingham regardless. They are a confident unit, we are a confident unit, it is first versus second and we know what we are playing for.
“But that’s the beauty of it, if we beat them we go top, so we will pick a side accordingly.”
