MICKY ON PURSE

Gaffer says Darren Purse can bring qualities to the squad

Micky Adams is pleased to add the experience of central defender Darren Purse to his squad and says he can bring qualities to the squad that are currently missing.

He said: “He is experienced, he knows the job, he’s a leader and I personally felt he kept Plymouth in the division last year with his leadership qualities.

“He didn’t do that all on his own, but I thought he was instrumental in driving them forward.

“I think it is a decent signing for us. He’s come here until the end of the season and he is vastly experienced and he is vocal.

“We are not a particularly vocal side, so that’s the sort of quality that we need, hopefully to take us forward.

“We have signed Chris Birchall and Darren Purse, but we have got other irons in the fire as well.

“I have had fantastic discussions with the new chairman and Norman (Smurthwaite) and we are all in agreement that we are in a fantastic position at this moment in time.

“We want to take it forward if we possibly can and if we have to add more faces to the squad then we will do so.

“We are talking to Liam Chilvers and his agent and hopefully we can tie him up. Darren Purse is not there as a replacement for Liam Chilvers, he is there because we have had an injury to John McCombe.”
