JONES LOOKING FOR GOALS

Defender hoping to add to the goal he scored on his debut

After netting Vale’s first goal in the televised match against Wimbledon the other night on his debut, defender Daniel jones is hoping to score a few more goals between now and the end of the season.

He said: “It’s about time I did score to be honest. The gaffer said to me ‘just push on as much as you want, we’re an attacking team so play to your strengths, do what you do and get forward as much as you can’.

“When I was training back at Wednesday I used to have a few digs from range and I never really got an opportunity in a game

“Nobody came to me and closed me down when the ball came to me and it opened up a bit so I just thought, I’ll give it a go, and thankfully it went in.

“It was nice to score on my debut and I am glad we managed to turn it around. Maybe I ought to shoot a bit more often.”

Jones joined Vale early last week after leaving Sheffield Wednesday and the defender was quickly made to feel a home by the rest of the Vale squad.

He commented: “I have found it really easy to fit in and the lads made me feel really, really welcome. There’s a real togetherness and all of the lads are brilliant, they really are.

“I know Darren Purse from Sheffield and he is really vocal and Lee Hughes is the same and there is a lot of experience in the right areas of the pitch.

“Football is a weird game, one minute you are going somewhere and the next minute you are staying.

“You have just got to take your chance when it comes along and hopefully I have done that and will get picked for the next game.

“I want to stay fit and play as many games as I possibly can and do as well as I can for myself and hopefully do as well for the team as I can.”
