Mark Grew says Vale must start taking their chances
Mark Grew says Vale have to start taking their chances if they are to do anything in League One this season and has also hinted there may be changes for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderer this weekend.
He said: “Unless we start killing teams of in this division when we have got the chances, then we are going to cause ourselves problems.
“The biggest lesson we can learn is that we have got to take our chances in this league. We have got to defend better, obviously, but when you get the chances that we got at Oldham in the first.
“If we had got those three points on Saturday we would have been right at the top of the tree again, that’s the disappointing thing about it.
“We felt we could have won the game and pushed on. We are still mid-table, but for us it was a chance thrown away.
“We have always been a team who wants t play football, but there are times and places that you can play. Sometimes in the first ten minutes of each half we want to be playing in their half.
“We showed the lads the DVD on Monday in the first twelve minutes of the second half, we never turned them, the tempo wasn’t high enough and we didn’t press them.
“All the things that we believe in, they didn’t do and the manager made it clear on Saturday and again on Monday that you do it ‘my way’ or face the consequences.
“We always say it, the door is left open if we are beaten and it is no different this week. If we had come away with a win or a draw we may have kept the same side for this Saturday, but the door is now open again.”
