Loft ready to lead out Vale for last home match
Captain Doug Loft has now forgotten the worries of Port Vale only having three players registered last year as he prepares to lead his side out against Northampton Town on Saturday for the final home match of the season.
Midfielder Loft was one of only three players signed on before pre-season last year and he admits a lot has changed at the club.
Loft explained: “When there was three of us that signed at the beginning, I was saying to my Dad I don't know what is going to happen this year and I was bit worried.
“I came back in pre-season and saw the quality of players he (Micky Adams) has brought in and it left me really optimistic about the season and so far it has been proved right.”
Loft added: “The manager has brought a lot of players in during the summer and he has got us all to gel and given us a team spirit.”
With the ticket office queues stretching as far a Hamil Road it is impossible for Loft and his team-mates not to feel the buzz around Vale Park and 26-year-old admits the large home crowd can be the difference.
He said: “There is a great atmosphere around the place and we are all looking forward to Saturday.
“I definitely think it helps, when the fans get behind you it gives you a lift as a player and as a team.
“They helped against Burton and they can help us against Northampton.”
Northampton Town will be coming to Vale Park without a win since March but Loft is fully aware of the threat that they can cause.
“Every game in this league is hard, you can play a team one week and they are terrible and you can play them the next and they're world beaters.
“We know this league and how hard it is to get out of, we are expecting a very hard game.
“We know it is going to be a tough physical game, they are always a threat going forward,” said Loft.
The Ticket Office will be open between 9am and 8pm Thursday and Friday.
