CHILVERS READY FOR TONIGHT

Vale defender hoping to enjoy Saturday in front of the TV

Liam Chilvers is hoping to be able to sit in front of the TV on Saturday afternoon knowing that results elsewhere could prove huge for him and his team mates, but first there is the small matter of tonight’s game against Burton Albion.

Everybody at the club is aware of the threat posed by tonight’s visitors, but there is a confidence about he place once more as Vale go into the match unbeaten in their last three outings.

The Vale defender said: “We are probably where we want to be with five games remaining and we have got to take each game on its own merit.

“If we can get three points tonight we can sit back on Saturday and watch the results come in and hopefully that will put some pressure on the other teams.

“If it all goes our way we will end up cementing our position in the top three, and obviously that is where we want to be at the end of the season.

“”We know that we can only affect what happens in the next game we are going to play and do everything we can to get the three points.

“It can open a gap between ourselves and Burton if we can get the right result in tonight’s game, so that’s obviously what we are aiming to do.

“The only target the manager has set for us is the last one, to get to seventy points as quickly as we could and we have done that now.

“Now with five games to go it is very much going to be looking at the next game and knowing what we have got to do.

“If everything goes right for us with other results then sooner rather than later we will be in a position where we can’t be caught.

“That is when you can start to celebrate and enjoy yourself, but until that moment it is just one game at a time.

“We know tonight’s game is an important game but we are not putting any more pressure on ourselves than is necessary.

“We are not building it up to be bigger than it is, we know that we have got to try to get the three points and then what that will bring.”
