A look ahead to tonight's match at Fleetwood
Vale are expecting a large following for tonight’s match against the ‘Cod Army’. Not only will it be a new ground to tick off the list, but a big top of the table clash to boot.
Many were predicting Fleetwood to do well in their first season in the Football League and although it is early days so far, they haven’t disappointed.
A 1-0 home victory against Northampton Town on Saturday, their fourth consecutive league win, sees Micky Mellon’s side sitting level on points with the Valiants.
Like Vale, Fleetwood have only been beaten once in the league so far this season – they lost 1-0 in their opening away fixture at Bradford.
A superior goal difference of just one goal in favour of the Vale sees Micky Adams’ men one place ahead of the Cod Army, who are currently third.
Vale boss Micky Adams will no doubt point out Vale’s terrific start to the season. The Valiants are unbeaten in five games and during that run they have slammed in an impressive fifteen goals.
The question on everybody’s lips is, will Vale remain unchanged for the eighth consecutive game?
Had this game been on a Saturday instead of midweek, Fleetwood would have struggled to accommodate the Vale following.
The fact that it is a midweek game should make it that bit easier, though fans from the Potteries are expected to fill the away end at Highbury Stadium – a stand that holds 800 supporters.
