Midfielder reveals he resorted to ringing round clubs himself
Vale’s latest signing, Sean McAllister, has revealed he had to ring around to try to find a club after being released by Shrewsbury in the summer.
He was sitting around twiddling his thumbs, waiting for his agent to fix him up, before deciding to take the bull by the horns and picking up the phone himself.
He said: “I had been out of contract for that long that I started looking at clubs who had got injuries or players suspended and I started ringing round clubs myself.
“I had an agent and it didn’t seem to be working out, so I decided to take it on myself, so when Doug Loft got injured here I gave Micky Adams a ring and he asked me tom down. I played in a reserve game and I have been here since.
“I was released in the summer and it has been a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have had experience in the Championship, got promoted last season and so I thought that would give me a good basis to go and find a new club.
“Whether it is because clubs are cash-strapped, or because clubs had already got their midfield sorted, it was unbelievably tough, but I am delighted now to finally get it sorted and I can’t wait to get out there on the pitch.
“I had the experience of getting promoted last season and that is always my target. I am looking to get promoted and play at a higher level, so hopefully coming here I can help the club win promotion this season.
