Devante Rodney is in contention for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award for January.
After joining the club in the summer, Rodney has been one of the first names on the team sheet following his consistent performances and that has been noticed by the league in the month of January.
Rodney averaged a goal a game last month scoring four goals in four appearances, his best performance coming at home to Southend United where he picked up a brace which included a stunning shot from outside the box after just 55 seconds of the game played. His other goals came in the 3-0 win over Grimsby Town and the away draw to Forest Green Rovers.
The striker was pleased that his efforts had been recognised “I feel like it’s a big achievement in my career, obviously this is the first full season in League Two so to be in a shortlist for a Player of the Month award is a really good achievement”.
Reflecting on the first half of the season, Rodney was happy with his goal record so far but still wants to push on until the end of the campaign “It’s been a good season, as a team I feel like we could have achieved more but the season’s not over so we can put this right. I’ve still not met my targets, I’m close, but I’m just taking it game by game and just trying to score as many goals as I can”.
Also on this month’s shortlist are Mansfield Town’s Jordan Bowery, Cambridge United’s Wes Hoolahan and Oldham Athletic’s Davis Keillor-Dunn.
The winner will be announced this Friday and we wish Devante the best of luck.
