Neil Aspin has praised his side’s performance after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town after leading for majority of the game.
David Worrall’s first-half effort saw Vale go into an early lead, where it was cancelled out by a 90th minute equaliser from James Berrett.
Despite conceding late on, Aspin has celebrated his sides performance where The Valiants dominated the game.
He said: “You’ve asked me across the last few weeks where we haven’t deserved to get anything from the game, but today we deserved to win the match.
“If it hadn’t have been for their goalkeeper, who had an inspired game today, we would have come back with the three points.
“I have seen enough from the players today which shows me that we can pick up the necessary points.”
With Tom Pope being out injured, the gaffer says he was also happy with Anton Forrester’s performance who stepped up to replace Vale’s top goalscorer.
“Anton did well, I thought,” he said.
“He needs a run of games which he hasn’t had, his match fitness is a little down at the moment but he has a great chance to show what he can do.
“But, it’s a good chance for all the strikers and Anton worked really hard today. You can only ask the players to give their all for the shirt and they did that.”
The gaffer has also expressed his delight for goalscorer, David Worrall, after impressing throughout the 90 minutes.
He added: “David has been a consistent performer.
“The only thing lacking from his game has been goals, but now he’s chipping in with more and showed a great threat in the first half.
“If he continues to do that, it’ll be a plus for us.”
