Last Time We Met - Crawley Town

We take a look back at the last time we met Crawley Town at the Checkatrade Stadium ahead of this weekend’s clash at the home of The Reds.

You have to go back to the 20th of December 2014 for the last time Vale travelled to Crawley back in League One.

On that day it was Rob Page’s men who came away with the three points, leaving John Gregory’s side two points above the drop and without a win in 11 games.

It was current manager, Michael Brown who got the Valiants off the mark, with a neat finish after just 30 minutes, grabbing his fifth goal of the campaign.

Then, just 12 minutes later the lead was doubled, as Louis Dodds, who was drafted back into the starting eleven made it 2-0 on 42 minutes.

Dodds grabbed his first goal of the season and was able to keep an impressive record where he had scored in all Vale’s trips to the Checkatrade Stadium since the two sides first met.

Into the second half and Crawley had the perfect opportunity to get themselves back in the game, as they were awarded a penalty after 60 minutes when Michael O’Connor was deemed to have fouled Marvin Elliot.

Former Valiant Gavin Tomlin stepped up to take the spot kick, but he was denied by Chris Neal who saved superbly to keep the score at 2-0.

Crawley did eventually get a goal back in the 88th minute through Connor Henderson, but it came too late as the game finished 2-1 to Vale.
