Match Report | Port Vale 1-0 Chesterfield

EC

The Valiants secure back-to-back wins and our first home league victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Chesterfield at Vale Park.

There was a quick opening to the game with both teams having early sighters, however, neither team could capitalise on their chances and take the lead.

In the ninth minute of the game, Vale had another chance. Some lovely play between Ethan Chislett and Lorent Tolaj resulted in the ball being worked to Garrity, who fired his shot wide of the post from just outside of the area.

The opening and only goal of the game came two minutes later as Jayden Stockley flicked a header onto Lorent Tolaj, who played a delicious first-time ball over the top to Ethan Chislett. The playmaker was bearing down on goal and made no mistake slotting the ball past Ryan Boot in the Chesterfield net.

The Valiants came close to adding a second soon after, Ethan Chislett once again causing all sorts of problems on the left-hand side, this time cutting in and forcing a good save from the Spireites' goalkeeper.

Halt-time: Port Vale 1-0 Chesterfield

Vale had the first chance of the second half, George Byers neatly turned his man and played the ball to Benicio, who went past one defender and got a shot away only for it to be straight down the goalkeeper's throat.

The Valiants pushed for a second with both Ethan Chislett and Lorent Tolaj having good opportunities, but neither could find that all-important insurance goal, which Vale thoroughly deserved.

Vale made their first change of the game ten minutes into the second half with injured Jesse Debrah being replaced by Ben Heneghan.

Another two changes shortly followed with Ruari Paton and Rico Richards entering the field for goalscorer Ethan Chislett and Benicio.

With Chesterfield pushing for an equaliser gaps started to appear and Lorent Tolaj almost secured all three points five minutes from time, but his angled shot was deflected away by a Chesterfield defender.

Two final changes were made by Darren Moore on the stroke of full time with Ryan Croasdale and Tom Sang coming on for Player of the Match George Byers and Kyle John.

Following late pressure from the visitors, Vale held firm, defended brilliantly and deservedly walked away with all three points making it two wins on the bounce.
