Our final fixture of 2024 ends in defeat for The Valiants at Blundell Park.

Darren Moore's side had the first chance of the game after two minutes when Rico Richards picked up the ball on the edge of the box, before cutting inside and shooting towards goal, but Jordan Wright was on hand to push away to safety.

The next meaningful chance of the game came in the 21st minute when Ruari Paton was played in behind. He exchanged passes with Ethan Chislett before flashing a shot across the face of goal from the left side.

Grimsby had their first chance soon after when Jayden Luker cut inside from the right before taking aim, but Connor Ripley was on hand to save at his near post.

The hosts took the lead in the 29th minute, Jordan Davies did well to keep the ball in before hanging up a cross to the back post that was met by Cameron McJannet who had the easiest of finishes to put his side ahead.

The hosts were pushing for a second and as Danny Rose got to the byline, he cutback for Luker who sliced his effort well wide.

Three minutes before the break Vale took a quick free kick which set Mitch Clark free. As he bared down on goal he fired over from the right side of the box.

As the referee indicated two minutes of added time, the hosts came close to doubling their lead. Danny Rose made a good run off the shoulder and was played in-behind but his effort from the by-line was saved by Ripley.

On the hour mark, Connor Ripley was on hand to palm Danny Rose’s pot shot around the post.

Vale’s first chance of the second half came in the 74th minute when Jesse Debrah’s long throw wasn’t cleared and it fell to Connor Hall who saw his volley well saved by the Grimsby Town keeper.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. A deep free kick was met by Doug Tharme, who looped a header into the back of the net.

The three points were secured in the 92nd minute when Connor Ripley’s clearance was charged down by Jason Svanthorsson who picked up the pieces and rolled into an empty net.
