This morning the club were extremely saddened to hear the passing of 1966 World Cup winner, Gordon Banks OBE
A former coach here at Port Vale, Gordon Banks was nothing short of a footballing legend. Gordon made over 600 league appearances during his 15 year career in the Football League, playing for the likes of Chesterfield, Leicester City and Stoke City.
Gordon's most prestigious achievement in football would no doubt be winning the 1966 World Cup, alongside fellow greats such as Bobby Moore, Martin Peters, Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst.
Today, football has lost a true great. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Gordon's family and friends.
Rest in peace, Gordon.
