Midfielder says Vale should get something out of the game

Chris Birchall won’t be looking for excuses after the long midweek trip to Crawley and says the team have plenty of time to prepare for the game.

The midfielder says he is expecting a tough encounter, but believes Vale have enough in the team to be able to get a positive result and bring something home with them from the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

He said: “After travelling on Monday we have all day Tuesday to relax, stretch and prepare for the game. It will be a late one getting back, but it is better to get it out of the way now than perhaps in midweek January or February.

“Anyone who has seen Crawley this season will know they get the ball down and play, that is their philosophy.

“They are underdogs every game they go in to, but people who are with any knowledge about this league will know they are a dangerous team and can cause anyone problems.

“I remember watching them against Wolves and they played them off the park really, they were unlucky really, but we feel we should get something out of the game.
